Sorry for the long gap between entries.  We began our journey back east on May 22nd.  Actually, I began my journey on May 22nd.  I left early by myself to travel to a meeting in Houston.  I arrived in Houston on the afternoon of the 22nd.  My first thought when I walked off the the plane in Houston and after I was hit in the face by the typical Houston heat and humidity was, "Wow, do I miss Alaska!"

The meeting in Houston went pretty well, and I left for Philly on Friday the 23rd.  A little later that day, Rhonda and the kids left Anchorage for Philly with a connection in Las Vegas.  I got to Philly on Friday night and met Rhonda and the kids on Saturday morning.  I was afraid that after I had that feeling of missing Alaska when I landed in Houston, that I might have that same feeling in Philly too.  But, that was not the case.  I know this sounds a little girly, but I actually almost shed a tear a or two when my plane got into the approach pattern in Philly.  There was no feeling of missing Alaska once I got close to Philly.  OK ..... maybe it sounds a lot girly.

So Rhonda and the kids and I met up on Saturday morning and headed up to Walt's house.  That night we planned to surprise the Elitz', the Shultz', and the Mikula's who did not know that we were in town yet.  It was really a fun night ...pretty emotional too.

The next day we went to Rose Marie's house for a Schmidt family Memorial Day picnic.  It was really great to see everyone.

I spent the next week in Baltimore for a Bentley conference while Rhonda brought the kids to Faith Christian Academy so they could visit friends.  They were permitted to attend classes all week since it was the last week of school for Faith.  They had a great time.

We just got back from a weekend camping trip in Quarryville PA with the Currys, Garbers, Elitz', and the Erenius'.  Really great weekend even though the weather was awful!

Rhonda saw her mom today for the first time in five months.  It was an emotional reunion and we had a great time just sitting around for most of the night talking with her, Uncle Jimmy, Walt, Deb, Judy, and the kids.

It has been a great trip home so far.

Saturday night before Father's Day.  I am sitting on Walt's back deck just relaxing with everyone when Andrew comes up to me and asks me to follow him to the camper.  I followed him to the camper and he ran inside the camper and emerged with a piece of paper.

He looked at me and then he looked down on the paper and began singing a song that he wrote for me for father's day.  He was about 2 and a half seconds into the song before I started balling my eyes out.  Here is his song:

By Andrew; Title: "Wonderful Dad"

Have fun on Father's Day

Dad you are a wonderful Dad

Oh, I love you when you hang around with me

Oh, you are a wonderful Dad, oh yeah!

Oh, you are a wonderful Dad, yeah!

He gave me the paper that it was written on and he signed it this way:

Happy Father's Day

Love your wonderful son Andrew

There was also a hand-drawn picture of the four of us inside of a heart.
